Ramayana OTT Release Update: Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi’s much-awaited mythological epic Ramayana Part 1 has finally arrived in cinemas, giving audiences a grand big-screen experience. While moviegoers are heading to theatres to watch Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious film, many are already searching for details about its digital premiere.
When will Ramayana be available to watch online? Which OTT platform is likely to acquire its streaming rights, and when can viewers expect its digital release? Although the makers have yet to officially announce the OTT release date and platform, speculation around its online premiere has started. Here’s what we know so far about Ramayana Part 1’s OTT release plans.
ALL ABOUT RAMAYANA: PLOT, FULL CAST AND OTHER DEETS
The film traces the events that shape Prince Rama’s life, beginning with his early years in Ayodhya and his meeting with sage Vishwamitra. His journey takes him to Mithila, where he wins Sita’s hand in marriage by breaking Lord Shiva’s bow during her swayamvar.
Rama’s life takes an unexpected turn when Queen Kaikeyi asks King Dashrath to honour her two boons. She demands that Rama be sent away for 14 years and that her son Bharat be crowned king instead. Despite being the rightful heir, Rama accepts his father’s decision to protect the promise made to Kaikeyi.
Sita and Lakshman choose to leave the palace with him, and the trio begins their life in exile. Their time in the forest brings several major developments, from Shurpanakha’s encounter with the brothers to the golden deer episode. These events eventually lead to Ravana’s plan to abduct Sita.
Ranbir and Sai Pallavi play the lead roles of Lord Rama and Sita respectively while Yash has been cast as Ravana. Ravie Dubey is essaying Lakshman and Rakul Preet Singh is confirmed as Srupanakha. Lara Dutta, Arun Govil, Shiba Chadha among others are also a part of the mythological drama.
RAMAYANA OTT RELEASE UPDATE: WHEN & WHERE WILL THE FILM STREAM ONLINE?
With Ramayana now playing in cinemas, viewers are also curious about when they can watch the Ranbir starrer from home. The digital streaming rights of Ramayana Part 1 have been acquired by JioHotstar.
An official OTT premiere date, however, is yet to be announced. The film’s box office run and the agreement between the producers and the streaming platform will play an important role in deciding its digital release.
Films generally arrive on OTT platforms around six to eight weeks after their theatrical debut, although this window can vary. If Ramayana follows a similar schedule, it could potentially begin streaming around mid or late December. This is only an estimate and not a confirmed release date.
