Ramayana Release Update: Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana is one of the most anticipated Bollywood films, with audiences eagerly waiting for the epic to arrive on the big screen. The timing has sparked curiosity, especially given the excitement surrounding Ranbir’s much-awaited project. However, there is more to this story than a straightforward face-off between two films. The reported release plans come with an interesting twist that could change how the situation is viewed. Here’s what we know about the buzz.

AKSHAY KUMAR’S CULT FILM MOHRA IS RE-RELEASING AFTER 32 YEARS

Yes, you read that right! Akshay Kumar is not clashing directly with Nitesh Tiwari-directed Ramayana Part 1. But, his cult movie Mohra is returning to the theatres this Diwali again after 32 years. Director Rajiv Rai has now clarified that there is no plan to compete with the much-hyped mythological film starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama.

Rajiv Rai’s 1994 action thriller Mohra, featuring Akshay Kumar, Raveena Tandon, Suniel Shetty and Naseeruddin Shah, is set to return to selected single-screen theatres from November 6. The date is one day after the scheduled release of Ramayana, leading to speculation about a clash between the two films.

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Rai explained that the re-release is aimed at smaller centres where theatres are available.

“I’m not coming against Ramayana. Because everyone has moved away from Diwali, there’s an opening in small centres and I’m trying to take advantage of that. Also, it’s an auspicious date to start something. Anyway, Ramayana cannot book all the cinemas in the country,” the filmmaker said.

Putting the box office clash rumours into perspective, Rai also pointed out that Mohra may not even find a theatre in Mumbai for its re-release. The film’s limited distribution plan means that it will not necessarily compete with Ramayana in major cities.

The filmmaker’s comments suggest that the two titles are targeting different theatrical opportunities rather than going head-to-head for the same audience. While Ramayana is expected to draw attention as a major big-screen release, Mohra will return to selected single-screen cinemas after more than three decades.

WHAT ARE MOHRA AND RAMAYANA ABOUT?

Released on July 1, 1994, Mohra was produced by Gulshan Rai. The action thriller follows Vishal Agnihotri, played by Suniel Shetty, a prisoner seeking justice after the murder of his wife and sister. Journalist Roma Singh, portrayed by Raveena Tandon, helps secure his release. Vishal later becomes involved with businessman Jindal, played by Naseeruddin Shah, who uses him to eliminate criminals. Akshay Kumar is also part of the film’s lead cast.

Meanwhile, Ramayana, produced by Namit Malhotra and Yash, is scheduled to release in theatres on November 5. Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi portrays Sita and Yash takes on the role of Ravana. The film also features Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman.
