Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 continues to draw audiences to theatres, with fans turning out to celebrate the film’s performance since its October 15 release. The Nelson directorial has reportedly collected over Rs 600 crore worldwide, making it a significant box office success for the Superstar. As the film’s run gathers momentum, the cast and crew came together on Saturday to mark the occasion with a cake-cutting ceremony, attended by Rajinikanth himself.
The celebrations also saw the actor make a rare appearance at an IMAX screening of the film alongside fans. Reportedly his first such public appearance in 40 years, the visit offered audiences an opportunity to see the Superstar outside the familiar setting of a promotional event. Rajinikanth’s presence at the theatre quickly became a talking point, particularly as he appeared to make his way into the screening without the kind of elaborate security arrangement typically associated with a star of his stature in India.
Rajinikanth Makes A Rare Public Appearance At Jailer 2 IMAX Screening
Sun Pictures, the production house behind Jailer 2, shared a video on Saturday documenting Rajinikanth’s arrival at the theatre. The footage shows the actor stepping out of a car before heading towards the IMAX auditorium, where director Nelson is also present to welcome him. The filmmaker is seen shaking hands with the Superstar as he enters the venue, with members of the entourage following shortly afterwards.
The appearance is notable for another reason. Jailer 2 is the first film starring Rajinikanth to receive a wide IMAX release, marking a new milestone in the theatrical presentation of his films. The format has increasingly become a draw for large-scale productions, particularly those built around elaborate action sequences and a theatrical experience designed for the big screen.
For Jailer 2, the IMAX release adds another dimension to a film that has already generated considerable attention through its ensemble cast and the return of Nelson’s darkly comic action universe. Rajinikanth’s decision to attend a screening with fans also comes amid the film’s box office celebrations, giving the occasion a more personal touch than a conventional success meet.
Jailer 2 Success Celebrations Bring The Cast Together
The Saturday gathering brought together members of the Jailer 2 team to celebrate the film’s reported box office achievement. Alongside Rajinikanth, the film features several actors returning from the original, including Ramya Krishnan, Mirnaa, Vinayakan, Yogi Babu, Shivarajkumar, Mohanlal and Jaffer Sadiq.
The sequel also expands the franchise’s roster with Namo Narayana, Suraj Venjaramoodu, SJ Suryah, Kottayam Nazeer, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Hakkim Shah, Hrithik Roshan and Apeksha Porwal, among others. Vijay Sethupathi appears in a brief cameo towards the end, a moment that has fuelled speculation about the possibility of a third instalment.
However, reports have also suggested that several portions featuring actors such as Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Hakkim Shah and Vijay Sethupathi were removed from the final cut. Santhanam, who was associated with the original film’s cast, reportedly did not make it into the sequel’s theatrical version despite being part of the wider Jailer 2 team.
Interestingly, the comedian was among those who joined the celebrations on Saturday, underlining that the success gathering extended beyond the actors who ultimately appeared on screen. With its reported worldwide gross crossing Rs 600 crore, Jailer 2 has given its makers and cast plenty to celebrate, while Rajinikanth’s appearance at the IMAX screening has added another memorable moment to the film’s theatrical run.
