Ramayana (English) US Screening Review: Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is one of the most anticipated releases of 2026 for several reasons. The movie, which marks Nitesh’s return to direction after 3 years, is based on Valmiki’s Ramayana and comes with a stellar cast of Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash, Ravi Dubey, Sunny Deol, Anupam Kher, Vivek Oberoi, Rakul Preet Singh, Lara Dutta, Arun Govil, etc in the lead. Ramayana is co-produced by Yash and is touted to be one of the most expensive movies of Indian ciema which is made with a budget of Rs 4000 crores.

Interestingly, Ranbir Kapoor is returning to acting after 3 years post the phenomenal success of Animal and will be seen playing the role of Lord Ram for the first time onscreen. On the other hand, Yash’s appearance as Ravan has already grabbed a lot of eyeballs and is said to be one of the key elements of the movie. To note, the movie marks Ranbir’s first collaboration with Yash and second with Nitesh Tiwari after his cameo in Chillar Party. To note, Ramayana is set to release in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada and will be dubbed in 40 languages around the world. As everyon is looking forward to Ramayana’s release on November 5, the English dubbed version was screened at a private screening in US lately and we have our hands on the review
Ramayana (English) US Screening Review
As per a series of tweets shared by Priya Mathew by a senior booker from Brooklyn, the dubbing in English version for Ramayana is a major disappointment and gave it a rating of 3.5 stars on Letterboxd. While she emphasised that the VFX in the film is impressive, she also asserted that it felt cartoonish at times. “I should clarify what I mean by that. I don’t mean that it IS AI, I mean that it just *looks* sort of fake at times. A little cartoonish. I was less impressed by the VFX in The Ramayana and more impressed by the emotional core of the stor,” she asserted.

Furthermore, Priya also asserted that AR Rahman’s music in the movie is beautiful. “There were songs but they were not full length songs like in a regular Hindi film. (I saw an English version) The Indian music and songs that were composed by AR Rahman were beautiful,” she wrote. However, when quessing about Ranbir’s performance, Priya tweeted, “Candidly, I think he was miscast”.
