Udta Teer: Ayushmann & Sara’s Film Banned In Nepal 4 Days Before Release? Here’s What We Know

Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s upcoming Bollywood film Udta Teer has run into trouble in Nepal days before its Indian theatrical release. Nepal has refused permission for the film’s public screening after a review by the country’s Central Film Censor Board, according to reports.

Udta Teer Ayushmann amp amp Sara s Film Banned In Nepal

The decision affects only the film’s release in Nepal. Udta Teer is still scheduled to open in Indian cinemas on October 23, 2026. The film’s makers have not announced any change in the India release plan so far.

Nepal denies screening permission for Udta Teer

As reported, Nepal’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology informed the film’s local distributor, National Cine Group Nepal Pvt. Ltd., through an official communication. The ministry declined permission for public exhibition after the censor board assessed the film under Nepal’s cinema regulations.

The exact objection has not been publicly detailed by the Nepali authorities. However, reports said the decision was linked to provisions under Nepal’s National Cinema (Production, Exhibition and Distribution) Act. The board reportedly found the film’s subject matter to be covered under content restricted by the law.

Udta Teer is said to revolve around an India-Pakistan espionage plot. The story follows a Pakistani spy who enters India, suffers memory loss after an accident, and begins to believe he is an Indian counterterrorism officer. The premise places the film within the spy-action and patriotic drama space, a genre often watched closely by censors in the region.

What the ban means for the film

The restriction is limited to Nepal’s theatrical market and does not amount to a wider ban on the film. Indian audiences will be able to watch Udta Teer in theatres if the release proceeds as planned on October 23.

For Bollywood films, Nepal has traditionally been an important neighbouring market, though smaller than India’s domestic box office. A refusal of screening permission can affect overseas collections and publicity, especially for star-led Hindi releases with cross-border themes.

Udta Teer brings together Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan for a film written and directed by Akash A. Kaushik. The cast also includes Mukul Dev, Ram Kapoor, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Gulshan Grover, Suhail Nayyar, Rahul Bose and Supriya Pilgaonkar.

The film is backed by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain under Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment. With the Nepal clearance refused, attention will now remain on its Indian release and whether the makers issue any formal response to the development.
