For those unversed, Weinstein was accused of sexually assaulting former production assistant Miriam Haley. During the April 2025 retrial, Haley told the court that she first met Weinstein in 2004 at a film afterparty. She later reconnected with him at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006, where, according to her testimony, Weinstein offered her a production assistant role on Project Runway.
Haley alleged that later that year, Weinstein assaulted her at his Manhattan apartment. She testified that he physically held her down on the bed while she protested.
The retrial shows how long the path to accountability can be!

Weinstein was previously convicted in February 2020 and sentenced to 20 years in prison. However, the New York Court of Appeals overturned that conviction, leading to a retrial in 2025.

Addressing the judge, she said, “Having been sexually assaulted by Harvey Weinstein has had a devastating effect on my life and sense of security that may never go away. Making the decision to speak up will have me looking over my shoulder for years to come,” as per ABC. “It’s a life sentence for me,” she added.
